Toy Sizes

The Toy Schnauzer is a developing recognized breed. A Toy Schnauzer will have some of the characteristics of its larger cousin the miniature schnauzer. Examples of some of the differences are what make it a Toy, and what disqualifies it as a Miniature. This is size under 12 inches and a Toyish appearance. This breed also comes in an assortment of colors.

When Purebred dogs started to become more popular. The supply could not meet the demand. AKC was the popular registry of those times, for most all of your popular family breeds. As the public became more knowledgeable of the different purebreds available. Unscrupulous breeding arose. AKC being nothing more then a organization which keeps the record of a dogs pedigree.
AKC had a period when there were no checks and balances to ensure the dog being registered were actually the product of the parents, or even the breed specified on any given AKC paper work . All paper work was done according to the breeders own integrity. All transactions were done by postal services, litters were never inspected for purity.

Odd sizes and colors started to arise in many of your popular breeds. Those involved knew that these were not purebred dogs with honest paper work. There was a public outcry over the vast amount of AKC registered dogs later to be discovered as obvious mixes and even at times not even any where close to the breed on the paper work. AKC heard the outrages of the public and started its DNA programs. The AKC dogs already registered were not removed. Due to its small size, rarer colors the AKC Toy sized Miniature Schnauzer was born.

As cute and adorable as they are. There size and appearance are against the breed standards of the Miniature schnauzer breed. A small group of breeders started actively breeding this size. Many believing the Toy size Miniature Schnauzer is just a sized down Miniature schnauzer with no added outside breed. Because of this the lines are very small. Knowing the History of the AKC free for all, breedings, before the DNA. It is impossible to believe the Toy sized Miniature Schnauzer’s Does not carry outside blood.
The Toy sized Miniature Schnauzer is the foundation for the Toy Schnauzer other wise known as the
Spielzeugschnauzer.

The Toy Schnauzer is a developing breed. It is bred to be a pet first. They come in a variety of colors. Their size should be under 12 inches tall. The expression of a Toy Schnauzer is of a toy, not a terrier. The coat is clippered instead of stripped to leave a soft feel. The coat does not shed. The Temperament of a Toy schnauzer if of a happy, intelligent companion.  They also make great therapy dogs, and are also a superb toy breed with children.

The Toy Schnauzer will be the breed of this century bred solely for the people. This breeds only purpose is to be a pet. Visit the breed club for more information

History of the Miniature Schnauzer
originated in the late 1800's in Germany and was developed as a small farm dog used to go to ground for all types of vermin. It is believed that the breed came from the crossing of the Standard Schnauzer with either the Affinspinscher or the Miniature Pinscher as well as the Poodle, Wire haired Fox Terrier. The typical Miniature Schnauzer is alert and spirited, yet obedient. He is friendly, intelligent, easily trained, eager to please and a delightful companion. The Miniature Schnauzer is generally good natured, loving, loyal, and a very good watchdog. He is adaptable to both city or country life but is an active dog who requires regular exercise.

Adult Size Scale: As adults a toy schnauzer is sized by inches. Due to the fact that a short thick boned dog will weigh more then a tall thin dog at maturity. weight is not always an indicator or smallness. We do not breed any dog over 12 inches tall. Our average is about 9 inches. to the withers. Below is a growth chart that can assist in determining adult weight in a healthy pup.

Willamina is a 4 pound 7 and a half inches tall female Her mother is a toy
Poodle named Willow. Who had the best temperment I ever met on a toy poodle. She also was extreemly healthy with great eyes and knees. Her dad was a schnauzer named Tator who was rehomed and became a therapy dog. Willamina is smart like both her parents. Her puppies carry thier grandmothers out going temperment. Willamina throws very tiny puppies. I will be keeping a male from her and Green eyes. She has a family that has been waiting for her. But she throws such awesome puppies.
