leading the public to believe this is teacup size full grown. The pup
pictured is just 6 weeks old. He is small, but he will grow. 3 to 4 pounds
is a normal size for teacups. under 3 pounds can have medical issues.
They may live short lives.
I have been
asked to sell one pound
dogs full grown. I am sorry but 1 pound dogs are pretty much
non-existent. A 1 pound full grown dog is a complete urban legion.
I
feel sorry for any dog starved to reach an unheard of weight.
Sure people tell me over the phone they have one pound full grown dogs. The pet
pwner either needs to find a real scale, or get that rare dog on TV.
I
personally weighed a three pound chihuahua that on a real scale weighed ten
pounds. So in reality people lie more about the size of their dogs then people
lie about the size of themselves, .......or maybe haha.
Teacup
size wars are not healthy for our dogs, unscrupulous suppliers will try to
market on this. A person has more of a chance of winning a state lottery,
then to pay top dollar on a puppy that will stay under 3 pounds full grown. The
smallest dog in the world is measured by inches not weight, due to the fact that
people were starving dogs for the award. 3 inches high is the record. a 1
pound 13 ounce Chihuahua who looks physically handicapped is trying for a record
being 4 inches high and 8 inches long. Even though he is taller then the record
holder they are attempting the record by weight. Guinness world book of record
holder is 6 inches long, just shy of 2 pounds. This is the new smallest dog in the world .
there are 16 ounces to a
pound .
When buying a teacup size dog. Because of
the high prices. Scam's are ramped. Example a seller either knowingly or
unknowingly selling pups as teacups, who in turn far exceed the size limit. This
is very common. It is a truth that it can only be estimated mature size of a
pup. But for a pup bought as a teacup to exceed 4 pounds by more then 2 pounds
on a non-obese healthy adult. The seller was either scamming or lacking in
experience.
Also another major misconception, and a very dangerous
practice. Is when the seller demands the buyer should feed human baby food,
sugar water, nutra-cal, anything that is not a quality premium Puppy food. Any
puppy that must be carried around, fed sugar water or nutra-cal or fed soft
foods. Is not ready to go to any buyer. It is more likely a under aged, or
sickly pup. Sugar causes over growth of bacteria infection. Yes in a
hypoglycemic emergency sugar water can save a life. But it is not a food staple,
and should be avoided at all cost. Granted a new pup for the first few days
needs to be watched for eating. Being excited in a new home can make a pup go
off his or her food. This should never last more then a couple of days. In this
time it is ok to give a little nutra-cal. Beyond this time period a pup is sick
and needs to see a veterinarian.
A way to tell by pictures especially in
a long haired pup is by the hair coat length. The picture of the Maltese in my
logo I took myself. The pup is 7 weeks old in that picture which I took before I
took her from the breeders property. I see so many and I mean many well
advertised websites advertising teacup pups that are pictured next to hands or
soda cans, or dollar bills. With the hair coat of under aged dog or the pup is
much younger then the birth date they advertise the pup as. A teacup again is a
runt. It is not a breed. You can not what so ever breed two small dogs and get a
litter of teacups. It does not happen. A teacup is a runt a mishap. Why they are
so rare. The Teacup rage is much too new for generations to successfully
produce constant under 4 pound dogs. Granted as I have stated before the breeds
Chihuahua, Pomeranian and Yorkshire Terrier are more likely to come in this
size, for it is within the breed standard. But, breeders did not continually try
to produce the smaller size. Due to the fact of a female under 4 pounds is near
impossible to breed safely. If you believe a mix can be a teacup. Then as they
say with fools and their money, they are soon to be parted.
Yes I know
all the stars are pictured with Teacup's. Well let me point this out. All
are Puppies or very young adults not through growing. I have yet to see them
carrying those same pups full grown. Some of the full grown dogs I have seen
with stars all look like regular toy size to me.
Breeds all have
different grow rates. This takes experience to learn. Miniature Pinscher's are
odd they can start out very small then have a very fast growth rate after 4
months old. I happen to have a line that is a bit different I had to breed a few
litters to ensure what I was producing and see mature weight. Some Chihuahua's
have a late growth spurt too. Not as bad as the Min Pin, but they can fool you.
A 3 pounder at a year old can be a 4 ponder at 2 years old. So seeing
a tiny pup can be deceiving too'
Real teacups are usually way too small
to sell at 8 weeks old. If a person without medical knowledge took home a pup
that can fit into a teacup. chances are they will die on that person without
expensive medical care. A real teacup should never be sold under 3 months old.
For the super tinies they should not be younger 5 to 6 months old . Sure the
younger puppies are what people want. But in reality they just may be a
regular toy or they may die on you. No teacup leaves here unless it is eating
hard food and can take the stress of a new home. So when a buyer gets a real
teacup from babbling brook it will not fit into a teacup and will be past the
cute stage. But it will stay within teacup mature size. If you have to
have a cute little 8 week old puppy, then do not even consider the idea of
owning a teacup because a real Teacup will not survive a new enviroment at that
young of an age. be very weary of pictures of inmature puppies. If you get sold
a puppy and discover the puppy is under aged. Please report that abuser. It is
against the law to rehome a puppy under the age of 8 weeks old.
Some
newer breeds are being called teacup but are closer to 10 pounds. Teacup Pugs
are really mixed with chihuahua and are usualy 10 pounds. 3 pound pugs even pug
crosses are a myth . Schnauzers called teacup is a size under 7
pounds.
